First-Time Homebuyer Workshop

on .

Thank you for your overwhelming interest in the Holyoke Housing Authority's upcoming First-Time Homebuyer Workshop in March! We are so glad to have the opportunity to support area residents and collaborate with partner agencies on this important initiative. Unfortunately demand is greater than our availability, the space in which this upcoming workshop will be held allows for a maximum of 35 people in order to provide an area which is comfortable and conducive to learning. At this time, we are unable to accept any additional registrations for the workshop. However, if you are still in need of a First-Time Homebuyer Workshop, please visit www.chapa.org to view upcoming alternative workshop dates and locations. The Authority will hold another workshop in the Fall and will post that information when it is available. Thank you for your interest and we look forward to working with more area residents in the future! If you have any general questions, please feel free to contact Justine Sabbs at 539-2220.

HHA enters into an Energy Performance Contract

on .

On Wednesday, the HHA took a big step toward helping our residents and the environment. The HHA executed a $2.4M contract which will allow the HHA to reduce its environmental impact by undertaking many energy conservation measures. The upgrades were selected with an eye toward not only reducing consumption of precious natural resources but also with improving the quality of life and comfort for our residents. We are happy to have partnered with Ameresco and HUD to make this program a reality.

Thanks to our commissioners and staff for having the vision to undertake such exciting impactful initiatives.

Healthy Holyoke

on .

The Prevention and Wellness Trust Fund, establishment in July 2012 by the Massachusetts Legislature, sets forth a callenge to communities across the Commonwealth: reduce health care costs by preventing chronic conditions.

The Trust supports community-based partnerships including municipalities, healthcare systems, businesses, regional planning organizations, and schools. These groups work together to provide research-based interventions that will:

  • reduce rates of the most prevalent and preventable health conditions;
  • increase healthy behaviors;
  • increase the adoption of workplace-based wellness or health management programs; and
  • address health disparities

In January 2014 the Holyoke Health Center was awarded funding under this program. The Holyoke Housing Authority has been invited to partner with the Holyoke Health Center, the City of Holyoke, and other community organizations to address all of the Prevention and Wellness Trust’s priority health areas: tobacco use, hypertension, pediatric asthma and obesity.
