Thanks to the Governor his administration and staff at DHCD who visited Holyoke to announce the awarding of tax credits for the rehabilitation of Lyman Terrace. This announcement and event represents the culmination of a lot of hard work by residents, stakeholders, the city, TCB and the HHA board of commissioners and staff. This is a major step in making a marked improvement in the center city. We look forward to another celebration and ribbon cutting in the near future!
On August 29th, 2015 the Lyman Terrace Tenant Association, Lyman Terrace residents and staff of the Holyoke Housing Authority celebrated the harvest of the Lyman Terrace raised garden beds at the tenant associations 3rd annual block party.
To prepare residents for homeownership, the Authority is pleased to be able to provide, through a grant from the City’s Community Development Block Grant program, first-time homebuyer educational workshop courses. The purpose of the Holyoke Housing Authority’s homebuyer counseling program is to educate and counsel prospective homebuyers to make informed, voluntary decisions regarding the home buying process. The series covers such topics as: finding the right mortgage product, working with a Realtor, fair housing, home inspection and budgeting. The workshops are offered four times a year, two in English and two in Spanish.
The HHA held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Friday August 14th to reveal improvements made to the three playgrounds at Toepfert Apartments. A collaboration between Toepfert Apartments tenants,Tenant Association Members and the HHA made these improvements possible. A big thanks to all those involved in this project for all of their hard work in creating more appealing spaces in which our youth can play.
The HHA was glad to participate in and sponsor the Holyoke Safe and Successful Youth Initiative’s 1st Annual Community Basketball Tournament at Toepfert Apartments on July 31st. The event hosted 20 teams of youth between the ages of 14-24 years old for an afternoon of 15-minute 3 on 3 games. Congrats to the two winning teams, sponsored by River Valley Counseling Center and CareerPoint. Many meaningful collaborations were formed and several community agencies and Holyoke residents alike volunteered their time to make the event a success.
