Section 8 Homeownership Program
HHA's Section 8 Homeownership Program is an option for families who are current participant's of HHA's Section 8 Voucher (HCV) Program to use their subsidy towards a mortgage, instead of rent for up to 15 years. All participants in the HCV program must meet all HCV requirements and work with an approved lender to ensure households receive mortgage products beneficial to their homeownership goals.
General Eligibility Information
- Be a current voucher holder through Holyoke Housing Authority.
- Be a first-time homebuyer (have not owned a home in the last 3 years).
- Have a valid first-time homebuyer workshop certificate from a HUD approved agency
- Have some savings for a down payment at least 1% of the purchase price (for example: 1% of a home priced at $300,000 = $3,000)

Do I have to take a first-time home buyer’s course and receive a certificate?
Yes, you are required to take a HUD approved first time home buyer’s course to enroll in the program.
